The Russian Light Industry Exhibition opened in the State Duma
State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin and deputies from all factions opened the "Russian Light Industry" exhibition in the State Duma. The exhibition showcases Russian companies' ability to reduce their dependence on imported supplies and strengthen the domestic market. Ensuring national security begins with the independent sewing and production of military uniforms from domestic materials, emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin, opening the exhibition. He recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously issued a decree requiring uniforms for members of the Russian Armed Forces to be exclusively Russian-made, starting January 1, 2026, and to be made exclusively from domestic fabrics starting in 2027. "We must manufacture uniforms for soldiers and officers exclusively, at our own facilities in Russia. Every country that wants to protect itself must begin with this," Volodin said, noting that this is a matter of national security. According to him, it's necessary to completely stop purchasing foreign-made fabrics and military uniforms, as today's technology allows us to create clothing from materials that could compromise the country's security. "We don't know what kind of fabric they're buying. It can be seen from space, and parts of it can glow, partly because we don't understand the structure of this fabric," Volodin emphasized. In this regard, he continued, Russian manufacturers should have a complete monopoly in textile production for the country's defense and security needs. At the same time, Volodin stated, the share of domestically produced civilian textiles in the Russian market must also be increased. According to him, it currently accounts for only 15% and must be tripled to 45%. It is necessary, "in the good sense of the word, to engage in healthy protectionism, supporting domestic production," the State Duma Speaker emphasized. Following the exhibition, State Duma deputies, at the suggestion of Vyacheslav Volodin, agreed to hold major parliamentary hearings in late January 2026 on the key issues of developing the light industry in the Russian Federation. As the Speaker of the State Duma emphasized, this will be a thorough discussion, resulting in concrete decisions on supporting and developing the industry. The exhibition was organized by the BTK Group of Companies with the support of the State Duma Committees on Defense and on Industry and Trade. The exhibit consists of several sections, illustrating the entire production cycle: from the cultivation of raw materials to the manufacture of finished light industry products. Special attention is given to uniforms for military personnel, special forces, firefighters, and the Russian National Guard. During their tour of the exhibition, State Duma deputies noted the military uniforms on display, which provide the necessary conditions for service members to successfully complete their assigned tasks. Faction leaders and deputies supported Vyacheslav Volodin's initiative to establish a special support program for the light industry.
