Tajikistan, the smallest republic in Central Asia with the youngest population, enjoys a distinct advantage in logistics, serving as a hub between the CIS countries, China, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation has highlighted this advantage in the context of developing the export potential of Russian business.
"We believe Tajikistan is a good hub that can be used in the Uzbek direction, and we should also look to China—the infrastructure there is already in place—and Kyrgyzstan. Overall, it is our strategic partner in all geopolitical and geoeconomic relations," said Viktor Padalko, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, during a meeting of the Russian-Tajik Business Council two years ago.
Considering the strategic advantages of Tajikistan's location, BTK Group, a leading Russian light industry company, invested $14 million in the creation of a textile cluster in Dushanbe, based at Nassoch (Thread) JSC. BTK Group has also allocated 5 hectares of land in the Spitamen district of Sughd region for cotton cultivation.
According to Timur Yoribek, Head of the International Relations Department at the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan, the Group is already producing and processing cotton for custom workwear, having established direct deliveries of finished products to Russia. A cooperation agreement between BTK and the government of Tajikistan worth $200 million was signed in 2022 during the Tajik-Russian Investment Forum. The agreements also covered the launch of a joint garment venture.
